SUPPORT ETHICAL BREEDERS
If you get a puppy from a responsible breeder, know that they have trusted you with a piece of their legacy, heart and hard work. It's important to note that planning healthy litters involves a lot of time, effort, care, research, health testing, vet visits, preparation, socialization and a significant financial investment. When you choose to get a puppy from an ethical breeder, you are investing in all the work and research that goes into producing a healthy, well-bred and well-raised puppy.
Have you considered the care and special requirements of a Japanese Chin?
Chin are a brachycephalic breed, they are an indoor dog and cannot be left outside for extended periods of time.
- Are you prepared to keep a chin in your home with you at a comfortable temperature, warm in the winter and air conditioning in the summer?
- Chin have thick, glorious, long coats. Are you prepared to brush out your chin's coat at least once a week?
- Are you ok with a chin shedding hair on your clothes and furniture?
- Financially, are you prepared to feed only high end food and treats?
- Chin are sensitive to having their teeth brushed, are you able to afford dental cleaning every few years? This can cost $1,000 to $1,500 each time.
- Chin have large skulls on delicate frames and can be easily injured with rough play. Do you agree to not take your chin to dog parks, to not let them be roughly played with by larger dogs or children?
- Chin do well with several short walks a day with a harness and leash, depending on temperature and weather conditions. They do not like wet or cold conditions and may chose to use pee pads or a litter instead of going for a walk. Are you ok to provide for the odd potty in your home?
- If you are unable to provide the care necessary for your chin in the future, do you agree to return the chin, regardless of age or condition, to us and not to resell or give the chin to a shelter or rescue organization?

Please tell us about your dog activity experience.
- Have you or would you like to participate in activities such as agility, obedience, therapy, dog shows?
- Have you or would you like to breed?

- Do you have additional experience with pets/animals that you would like to tell us?

Please provide two references.
We recommend a veterinarian, groomer, dog walker, etc.
