Welcome to Chiyoko!
Lloyd and I, Tracy, invite you to look around our site and hope you enjoy the pictures and information we have shared on each of our chin. If you have any comments or questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
We have loved Japanese Chin since we brought our first puppy home in 2009, one woo-woo and we were smitten! Who knew that after we brought that first puppy home that we would embark on a chin journey of discovery, dedication and preservation? We had simply wanted a cute puppy to love and occasionally show locally however we quickly discovered that chin are like chips, you simply cannot have just one, and truthfully, they really are better in pairs!
Our adoration for this toy breed drove us to select chin from long time respected, successful show breeders in Canada, Denmark and the United States of America. We are eternally grateful for their support and mentoring. Over a decade later, we are still learning and enjoying everything about this delightful toy breed.
As our chin family grew we named our kennel, simply one Japanese word, "Chiyoko". It means "child of a thousand generations" or “child of forever” and is pronounced "Chee-O-Ko". It resonated with us and we feel that it demonstrates our respect for this ancient breed.
"Chiyoko" has grown into a licensed/registered kennel with both the City of Ottawa and the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) dedicated solely to Japanese Chin. In March 2022, the CKC recognized our commitment to the breed and granted us the status of a permanently registered kennel. Although we are a licensed kennel, all of our dogs live in our home with us as treasured family members, we do not have a separate outbuilding.
We are proud to be members of our national club (the Canadian Kennel Club) as well as our local club (the Ottawa Kennel Club) and adhere to their breeding ethics. Our breeding philosophy is to selectively pair sound, healthy chin with great temperament and pedigrees. We are passionate preservation breeders and enjoy the science, and discoveries that can be made when utilizing DNA and health testing.
